Call for Panelists:
“Ensembles in the Collegiate Curriculum”
The National Collegiate Choral Organization (NCCO) invites applications for panel members at the 2017 National Conference. The topic is Ensembles in the Collegiate Curriculum.
The role of the choral ensemble experience in the undergraduate degree program can be a source of constant discussion at many colleges and universities. Conflicting visions of the value of and need for the choral ensemble experience between choral faculty and studio faculty exist at many institutions, and these conflicting visions can lead to tensions between colleagues that should be working in collaboration for the benefit of the students. How can the choral conductor work to resolve these tensions while articulating a clear rationale of the importance of the ensemble experience for undergraduate students?
The panel will be approximately 50 to 60 minutes in length and will include 3–4 panelists from the National Collegiate Choral Organization, 2 invited panelists from the National Association of Teachers of Singing, and a moderator, Ann Howard Jones (Professor of Music, Emerita, Boston University). The goal of the session is to foster dialogue and discussion between and among panelists, not to create individual mini-lectures from all panelists.
It is anticipated that the chosen panelists will work extensively together prior to the conference to create a position paper on this topic, which will be presented and discussed as part of the panel session.
Each applicant should submit:
- A current CV
- A brief (1-page) statement outlining your research, scholarship, or experience as it relates to the given topic, highlighting specific ideas or adaptations that they bring to this discussion.
Deadline: All materials must be submitted by April 15, 2017, 11:59p CST.
Notification: Results will be announced by April 30, 2017.
